Hello
I'm Shara Preston, CMHC, and I'm passionate about helping individuals find healing and growth through self-compassion. I offer telehealth services only.
My journey has taken me across the West, from California to Washington and eventually to Oklahoma, where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Central Oklahoma, with extensive study in Special Education. I later received my Master's of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Southern Nazarene University.
My Story
Throughout my career, I've worked in diverse therapeutic settings, including programs for former prison inmates and homeless individuals; with children, adolescents, and families in the foster care system; with couples; and with individuals facing mood difficulties. Most recently, I worked with teen girls and their families in a residential treatment center. My clients have navigated challenges such as depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, addiction, identity concerns, self-harm, disordered eating, and more. As a trained trauma therapist certified in mindfulness, I strongly believe in the transformative power of self-compassion. Working primarily from a relational framework, I draw on my experience and training in various therapeutic modalities to best serve my clients.
In my free time, I love exploring creative self-expression through writing, painting, and crocheting. I enjoy hiking, soaking up the sunshine, spending time with Mouse (my borrowed dog!), and visiting my amazing grandson and family. I'm passionate about traveling and discovering the newness and sameness that the world has to offer.
